Soccer was birthed before both rugby and American Football.
Soccer was created by the Danes kicking skulls of fallen foes
around. As legend has it, a player at Rugby University in
Rugby, England was frustrated with his soccer team and picked the
ball up at one end of the field and charged down the field knocking
over his players then threw the ball in the net. They thought
that it could be a fun game and thus rugby was born. American
Football developed out of rugby, hence terms like touchdown,
because in rugby you have to touch the ball down in the end zone to
score.

I wouldn't say that's a small point, and it goes against the existing dogma to be sure.

Any reference material to support your position?

Just a small point - soccer evolved from rugby. Soccer may have
formed a governing body a few years earlier than rugby but the
contact version predates the non-contact version. Soccer evolved
from rugby because some clubs in the 19th century didn't like the
hacking and physicality that marks out rugby and gradually altered
the rules to get rid of it.

The scrum half is holding the ball wrong. If he puts it in that way it's penalty.
