Sale are being investigated over a possible breach of concussion management protocol involving their back-row TJ Ioane, the Rugby Football Union has announced.

The Concussion Management Review Group (CMRG) are looking into an incident from Sale’s loss to Harlequins on Jan. 7 involving Ioane.

An update will be provided on Jan. 20 by Premiership Rugby and the RFU but no further details of the incident concerning Ioane have been released.

The case will be looked into by independent chairman Dr. Julian Morris and the RFU’s Nigel Melville and Premiership Rugby’s Phil Winstanley.

The news comes fresh on the back of the CMRG’s investigation into the incident involving George North who played on after appearing to get a bang to the head in Northampton’s match against Leicester back in December. After a lengthy process, the CMRG said North should not have played on but did not impose any sanction on Northampton.
