Tommy Taylor to leave Sale for Wasps

Wasps have announced the signing of hooker Tommy Taylor from Aviva Premiership rivals Sale Sharks.

Taylor will join the Ricoh Arena outfit ahead of next season after the Sharks acquired Rob Webber from Bath.

The 24-year-old has made 93 appearances for Sale and also represented England in the non-cap games against the Barbarians in 2014 and 2015.

“We’re really pleased to be able to add Tommy to the squad for next season. He is a really exciting English prospect who has impressed in the Aviva Premiership and in Europe this season with his dynamic physicality,” Wasps director of rugby Dai Young said.

“At 24, he is a young front-row forward who has a bright future ahead of him, with huge potential to develop and push his international ambitions.

Taylor added: “I’m really pleased to have signed a contract with Wasps and I’m really excited by the prospect of linking up with them ahead of the 2016/17 season.

“I’ve been hugely impressed by Wasps over the past couple of seasons and I’m looking forward to working with Dai and his coaching team.

“I have loved my time at Sale Sharks, leaving your hometown club is always a hard decision and I would like to thank all the fans, players and coaches, in particular Steve Diamond who showed faith in me from the start, for all their support.

“My focus now is on Sale Sharks and finishing this season as strongly as possible.”
